Recycling instructions: Errecom launches its new platform
Global Recycling Day: Errecom is doing its part as well! Even though the environmental labelling of packaging will become mandatory starting from January 1, 2023, Errecom’s “How to Recycle” platform is already operating, providing consumers with all the specific recycling information in 28 languages.

The Global Foundation of Recycling declared March 18th as the official Global Recycling Day to raise global awareness about the importance of recycling and the development of a circular economy in which waste serves as a real resource.
Correct waste sorting is one of the easiest and most sustainable practices that citizens can implement in everyday life to curb the increase in waste production which is a typical trend of modern consumer societies.
A recent study shared by Eurostat shows rising trends both in waste generation and treatment. On one hand, in fact, the waste per capita generated in the EU in 2020 increased by 8,5% compared to 1995; on the other hand, instead, the material that has been recycled has increased from 19 to 48%. The numbers speak for themselves then: per capita waste is increasing, but so is recycling.
Among the European countries, Italy is the most committed one: as declared by Eurostat on its official Twitter account, in fact, the highest recycling increase of 2020 has been recorded in Italy.
Clearly, to enable proper and efficient waste sorting, it is necessary to meet the growing consumer demand for information on packaging. Manufacturers must share this data, and this is when legislation comes into play.
The Directive (EU) 2018/852 on packaging and packaging waste has been designed to govern the recycling of packaging waste in the EU member states and, in Italy, will come into force on January 1st, 2023.
In light of this new obligation, Errecom has implemented the “How to recycle” platform, which indicates specific recycling guidelines for each material.
Specifically, on the packaging of each product, a QR code has been placed to link to the “How to recycle” platform, where the user must select one of the 28 languages available. At that point, the search can be done by code, product name or barcode.
With this project, which complies with the above-mentioned legislation, Errecom aims to provide the end consumer with the necessary information for the correct disposal of the different components of each product. From cartridges and bottles to cans and cardboards, just to name a few.
As a company that is particularly committed to sustainability, Errecom has chosen to implement the platform not only with the official languages of the European Union but also for consumers outside the territory covered by this legislation by including additional languages in addition to the official languages of the EU to raise awareness of the issue among all its customers from over 130 countries.
The multilingual platform, therefore, makes this information accessible to a wider public of consumers, informing them in their official language about the final destinations of the packaging, and facilitating, to all intents and purposes, its collection and recycling.
