Summer is coming, which means it’s time to switch on the air conditioners again. After months of inactivity, it is natural that they have accumulated dirt, dust and microorganisms. But they need to be cleaned if you want to be sure to breathe healthy air in the upcoming months.

4 steps to thoroughly sanitise your air conditioning system
STEP 1 – Filter Cleaning
Cleaning AC filters with soap and water: is it enough?
Although it is considered the normal practice, sometimes even suggested, it is important to know that it is not enough if your goal is to properly sanitise your A/C system.
Filters are a receptacle not only for dust but also for germs, bacteria, mould and various other contaminants that can only be removed with specific sanitising and disinfecting products, to prevent them from causing illnesses, allergies and respiratory disorders.

STEP 2 – Cleaning and purifying finned coils and air ducts
Not only filters but also finned coils and air ducts: grease, environmental dirt, organic residues and microorganisms settle also there. Not to mention the proliferation of mould that particularly affects the condensate drain.
This is an absolutely physiological condition: the indoor unit of air conditioning systems is a humid environment, which means it is natural for germs and bacteria to proliferate there. To overcome the problem, just clean and sanitise these components as well.
EVAPORATOR CLEANER is the air conditioning cleaner that purifies air ducts. Sprayed directly onto the finned coils of split units, it removes dust, dirt, germs and microorganisms.

STEP 3 – Cleaning air conditioners plastic shells
STARLUX is a foam cleaner specifically formulated for cleaning the plastic shells and any other plastic or metal surfaces of an air conditioning system. It removes dust, environmental dirt, nicotine stains, marks and grease.
Cover the surface to be treated with a light layer of foam and wipe with a soft cloth to obtain a clean and purified surface.
STEP 4 – Disinfection
Purifying and disinfecting are not synonymous. In the steps listed and described so far, we have mentioned purifying products, which are perfect for removing germs and bacteria.
They are not enough, though, if the aim is to kill and remove viruses from the ventilation ducts and your A/C system surfaces. The use of specific disinfectants is recommended, in order to achieve this goal but at the same time without damaging the components of the system.

If, on the other hand, you have to take care of a heat pump, it is advisable to clean it every time you switch from heating to cooling mode or vice versa.
As regards AC filters, they should be cleaned at least once a month.
