Back to school, finally! Our safety between masks, social distancing, sanitizers (and not only).
How are countries getting children back to school? Everyone will follow basic guidelines such as wearing masks, regularly sanitizing rooms and surfaces, cleaning hands with sanitizer and respecting social distancing.
As reported by a BBC’s article (1), in France staff and students have been returned to school on 1st September. They must wear masks and there is no longer be a limit – as in May – on class sizes. In Italy students will be seated 1 m apart so class sizes will become smaller, children will be divided into various learning group and will have to wear masks. Teachers will wear face shields as well.
In Germany, things are different: extra hygiene measures are advised, but masks are not mandatory (each state will decide on its own). Classes have been reorganized into so-called “cohorts”, in which there are no social distancing rules: each group has its own area in the school grounds, cloakrooms and canteens. In Spain, masks will be compulsory, and the students will have to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 m between themselves.
On September 2nd the U.K. Government released (2) the guidelines for the school systems up to secondary schools that include: classes arranged into “bubbles”, strict behaviour rules and mandatory masks in schools that are in local lockdown areas. Wear face coverings is left to the discretion of head teachers in the rest of the country.
Outside Europe, in U.S.A. the C.D.C (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) developed a protocol in order to prepare K-12 School Administrators for a safe return to school in fall 2020 (3). Each state decides on its own; so, a guideline is essential to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
One thing is for sure: prevention is always better than cure! For this reason, cleaning and sanitizing all school environments are essential to ensure a safe stay for students, teachers and school staff. It is essential to regularly clean surfaces and objects that come into frequent contact, as well it is important to sanitize environments with certified and proven products.
