On Sunday 20<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and Monday 21<\/span><\/span>st\u00a0<\/span><\/span>September\u00a0<\/span><\/span>elections will be held in different\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I<\/span><\/span>talian Regions and Municipalities<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and the Government has drawn up guidelines in order to vote safely.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In addition to the renewal of the Regional and Municipal Councils, there is a referendum to cut<\/span>\u00a0or not<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the number of Parliament members<\/span>. But this\u00a0<\/span>round of voting<\/span>\u00a0will take place during a period that we will remember for a long time. Covid-19 has changed many aspects of our lives: and elections are no exception.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On 7<\/span>th\u00a0<\/span>August\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>1), the Minister of the Interior, Mr<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0Lamorgese, and the Minister of Health, Mr Speranza, signed the health protocol to put in place<\/span>\u00a0in order<\/span>\u00a0to ensure that\u00a0<\/span>people<\/span>\u00a0can vote in total safety.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

First of all (2)\u00a0<\/span>there is<\/span>\u00a0the preparation of the polling stations: dedicated and separate entrance and exit routes must be provided<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0identified with appropriate signs, in order to prevent the risk of interference between the flow<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0of people in both directions. Once queued\u00a0<\/span>up\u00a0<\/span>in front of\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0section,\u00a0<\/span>people\u00a0have to\u00a0respect the\u00a0<\/span>social distancing<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The<\/span>\u00a0designated premises<\/span>\u00a0for the polling stations<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>should<\/span>\u00a0be sufficiently large to allow\u00a0a distance of one\u00a0metre between the members of the\u00a0<\/span>section<\/span>\u00a0and between them and the voter. It is equally important to ensure\u00a0a distance of two\u00a0metres when the voter will be asked\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0temporarily remove the mask for\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>recognition. In addition, the premises must be equipped with windows to facilitate regular air exchange.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In addition,\u00a0<\/span>an in-depth<\/span>\u00a0cleaning of corridors, bathrooms, and any other rooms\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>that are planned to be used\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>must be ensured, following the\u00a0<\/span>guidelines<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of the\u00a0<\/span>Istituto<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>Superiore<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>D<\/span><\/i><\/b>i\u00a0Sanit\u00e0<\/span><\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>(Italian National Institute of Health)<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>These operations\u00a0<\/span>should<\/span>\u00a0be repeated at the end of each election day.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Secondly, to ensure the normal conduct of voting operations, it is mandatory to clean the premises and disinfect the contact surfaces such as tables and voting booths<\/span>. It is also necessary to make sanitising products available in the common areas in the building and in each polling station to ensure frequent hand hygiene. In fact, the voter\u00a0<\/span>has to<\/span>\u00a0proceed with hand hygiene with the\u00a0<\/span>sanitizer<\/span>\u00a0provided\u00a0<\/span>not only when\u00a0<\/span>he or she will enter<\/span>\u00a0the polling station, but also after\u00a0<\/span>the approach to<\/span>\u00a0the components of the polling station for identification and before\u00a0<\/span>the delivery of<\/span>\u00a0the ballot\u00a0<\/span>paper<\/span>\u00a0and pencil. After\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>vot<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>the exit from<\/span>\u00a0the booth, further hand cleansing is recommended before leaving the\u00a0<\/span>polling station<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Finally, each citizen is asked to respect some basic rules of prevention<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0such as avoid leaving home and going to the\u00a0<\/span>polling station<\/span>\u00a0in case of\u00a0<\/span>respiratory distress\u00a0<\/span>or temperatures above 37.5\u00b0C. In addition,\u00a0<\/span>the voter\u00a0<\/span>must<\/span>\u00a0not be<\/span>\u00a0in quarantine or isolation at home and not ha<\/span>ve<\/span>\u00a0been in contact with\u00a0<\/span>Covid-19\u00a0<\/span>positive people in the 14 days before the elections.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In order to access the polling stations, the use of the mask is compulsory for everyone, in compliance with the regulations in force which provide for its use in public places.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Therefore, in order to ensure that the elections are conducted as safely as possible, the most suitable instruments must be used.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
